It's the end of the year.
Apparently it is not the end of the world, although with the news this morning that Kanye West and some woman named Kim having a baby, it might still be a possibility. Which brings me to my first thing to bitch about for the end of the year.
Celebrities. Or more accurately...people with no talent who for reasons I cannot fathom, are famous. Most of them are barely literate, ridiculously artificially enhanced and so damn annoying. People, people... come to your senses. Get a life, make a life for yourself. If we all ignore them they will go away... think "Jon & Kate Plus 8."
Politics: Where do we start? After over two years of campaigning, while the country went down the shitter, the election is finally over. The first thing Congress needs to deal with..the Fiscal Cliff. And what are they doing...posturing. Do some damn work, get it done and stop trying to save face in front of the American people. Trust me, it's too late for that.
Violence: Nothing throughout this year can compare with the tragedy at Newtown. We can only hope some progress is finally made in the name of mental health and controlling instruments of mass and easy killing.
Music: For the first time in a bunch of years, there's hope. Ok, so not yet on commercial radio, but there are some real good new bands out there. The grumbling from the past several years is actually starting to create a few changes with radio programming. Now if we can just get rid of the faux celebrity singers from the reality shows, and get some air time for the bands that have worked their asses off for years...then we might just see major improvement. Until then, I will keep the Music blog going and try to showcase as much good stuff as I can find.
Family: Even if they aren't related, family is all that matters at the end of the day, the year or your life. Never take them for granted, never miss a chance to show how you feel, and remember all the little things that make them the best part of your life.
A New Year is ahead, a clean slate. Try not to screw it up.
Happy New Year.
.
Life, as it should be. Yeah, but it isn't. So here are some observations about a) What's wrong with it, b) How it can be improved, and c) How good it feels to bitch about it. End result: Life as it should be...in other words, a slice of life that tastes a whole lot like pizza.

A President: This Is What I Want
I want a president who...
Has actually had a real life. Someone who has worked at a crappy job and realized he wanted something better.
Admits that he made mistakes in judgement as he grew up. How else do you learn? So you smoked pot in college, ha, who hasn't? Somehow I don't think he'll be lighting up in the Lincoln bedroom. Does any of the other stuff really matter at this point?
Swears when he gets pissed off. I believe in being calm under fire, but I also believe if heads need to roll, I want it done with passion.
Has a drink now and then. While I don't want a fall down drunk, I do want someone who understands how to deal with having a drink or three. If I ever meet the president, I want to be able to offer to buy him a beer. It's just a social thing.
While I truly don't give a shit what religion you are, I do not want a president whose view of the world is based on what his religion tells him it was 100, 1000 or many thousands of years ago. This, I believe is the real separation of church and state. If you are being sworn in, leave your prayer book at the door as you walk into the Oval Office.
Looks across the aisle, takes a deep breath and makes the first step to the middle.
Realizes he works for us...the people. This means we are what should matter in your plan for the country, not paying back the political favors to the big corporations.
This is what I want. Am I living in a fantasyland? Yes...her name is America.
VOTE.

Out of the Mouths of...
We are only into September and the political oops are already in full bloom.
It was barely two weeks ago when idiot Congressmen Todd Akin told us there is a such a thing as a legitimate rape. He has not been heard from since; apparently he has left the planet. And just yesterday, the gift that keeps on giving, Rush Limbaugh, opened his mouth again.
Though no stranger to stupidity, Limbaugh truly showed himself to be an idiot of gargantuan proportions when he said Barack Obama was not authentically black. Why? Because he does not have "slave blood."
As if the first statement of authentically black wasn't bad enough, he then throws in slave blood. Are you kidding me? How do people actually listen to this man?
Haven't we come far enough to stop with the race crap? Yes, a black man is president. And whether or not you think he is an idiot, that is your opinion. However, I'm pretty sure whether he is or isn't an idiot has nothing to do with the color of his skin.
What I am sure of, is the person who tells you there are pedigrees involved in acknowledging your heritage is an idiot. and considering the number of listeners he has, a very scary one.
On a lighter note, Newt Gingrich has settled the suit against him by stating he will do his utmost to no longer use "Eye of the Tiger" in his campaign. Considering Romney accepted the nomination last week, I don't think Newt has to try too hard.
I hate politics, but you just can't beat the one-upmanship of these morons. It's not even mid-September, plenty of time for someone else to step up to the plate.
Can't wait to see who's next...

It Is Super Tuesday: The Oreo Turns 100
So today marks two things in the world. It is Super Freakin' Tuesday and more importantly...it is the 100 birthday of the Oreo cookie. There is no contest in my mind which is more important. Can you say Yum?
Now I remember years ago, campaigning for presidential elections would start after the midterm elections were over. A little over two years after the last one. We have now entered the age where campaigning takes place basically as soon as the new president is sworn in. Everyone takes off the month of December...January begins with non-stop coverage about the inauguration, then BAM, as soon as the new guy is in...we start talking about mid-term elections.
And Congress starts fund-raising. Going from place to place sucking up money like a vacuum. It seems the only thing the two parties can agree on is, raise as much money as you can and do as little work as you can get away with.
Today a bunch of states (don't ask me how many..I've long since stopped caring) will vote for the Republican of their choice. But apparently this year, Super Tuesday is not so super. None of the candidates will have enough delegates to proclaim themselves as the presidential nominee, so off we go...campaigning again.
Are there really people who foam at the mouth in anticipation of every bit of political news coming out of these primaries? Maybe, all I know is I used to be a news junkie...now it gives me a headache and a case of Deja Vu. Let me know when the foreplay is over...and what the date is in November when I need to show up at the polling place.
Now, what really matters today is that 100 years ago, someone had an insanely wonderful recipe put into production. The Oreo cookie was created and the dunking world has never been the same. whether you twist and lick (I personally never understood that attack) or you put that sucker into a nice wide-rimmed glass of milk...dear God...it is heaven on earth. Now nothing is the same without the trans-fats, but when you start with something close to perfection, you can go down a rung or two and still be enthralled.
So, if you must watch all the political maneuvering...just be sure there's a couple of Oreo's ready to go.
If I was betting on anything today...it would be milk futures are going through the roof.
Dunk 'em if ya got 'em.

These are really the only choices we have?
I don't care which way your personal politics trend, do you really think either side has a really good (not even great) option?
This country is so screwed.
This country is so screwed.
